Migraine Zapper

Expert AuthorMigraineurs – people who suffer regular migraine headaches – will be excited to learn of the new migraine zapper. That means about 28 million people in the United States, as well as millions more around the globe will be excited.

Migraine relief is promised by many prescription drugs, herbal remedies, and folk remedies, but for many, the promise is never kept. Migraine relief is slow in coming, or eludes them altogether.

Migraine Relief from a Zapper

The migraine zapper may be the answer. The migraine zapper, officially named the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator (TMS), is a new device that promises to give quick and lasting migraine relief.

Yousef Mohammad, M.D., Ohio State University assistant professor of neurology, is overseeing a study of this new method of migraine relief. He says the TMS actually zaps the pain away.

Dr. Mohammad says,

By creating a magnetic field with this device, we’re hoping that this will interrupt this electrical stimulation before it leads to the throbbing migraine headache… We’re treating electricity with electricity instead of treating electricity with chemicals.

How It Is Used

To get migraine relief with the TMS, a migraineur simply holds the device to the head when migraine symptoms are felt. He or she then pushes the “trigger”. Two pulses are heard, two seconds apart, as the TMS interrupts the electrical process in the brain cells. Migraine relief is immediate.

How It Works

Migraine is thought to be brought on by a trigger. Your trigger may be stress, a beverage, a food, or something else. When a migraineur is exposed to a personal trigger, a wave of electrical activity floods the brain. As the wave hits the brain’s pain center, it causes one or more migraine symptoms. You may have an aura for 15 or 20 minutes, and then the pain starts.

The aura, or other migraine symptom, is the signal to use the TMS. As you give yourself two zaps, the TMS emits an electrical current. That current creates a magnetic field. The magnetic field disrupts the electrical wave that is headed toward the brain stem’s pain center. It blocks the wave, and your brain’s electrical activity returns to normal. Migraine relief results.

Effectiveness of the Zapper

In one of the preliminary trials of the TMS, seventy-five percent of migraineurs avoided the onset of a migraine with the two zaps.

One patient participating in Dr. Mohammad’s study found that the TMS cut her normal 4-hour migraines to 10 minutes.

Conclusion

The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator has been used in other areas of medicine, but for migraineurs, its importance is quick migraine relief.

So why get us all excited about a remedy if we can’t obtain it?? TMS is being tested on a very tiny group in several different countries and isn’t available here in the US and probably won’t be for years. Big deal. We need relief now.

MY WIFE HAS HAD TERRIBLE MIGRAINE ATTACKS FOR MANY YEARS. SHE TAKES TOPOMAX , WHICH IS DANGEROUS. SHE IS NOW 70 YEARS OLD. WILL THIS TMS UNIT BE AVAILABLE IN HER LIFETIME? WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG WHEN PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING SO?

I have a zapper that I have been using for years. Got it from a company that no longer makes them. But you can look online, I’ve seen them offered on a few websites.
Sometimes the migraine goes away and sometimes it only lessens the pain. I like that it is small and battery operated so I can take it with me anywhere as I get migraines several times a week. Like many others I have had them for over 25 years. Been trying so many different medications I can’t even keep track of what I’ve tried anymore.
