Ambush! - an Informative Speech on Migraines
Ambush! Imagine, with me, ambushing soldiers concealed behind a hilltop, or in dense underbrush. They wear camouflage, painted faces, and live greenery. As the unwary enemy approaches, the soldiers strike suddenly and unexpectedly. Ambush!
Deliberate or hasty, an ambush is an effective tactic. It’s one that migraine seems to use on its sufferers.
But let’s turn the tables. Let’s make YOU the one ambushing instead of the one being ambushed.
Migraine Prevention
Migraines are your enemy. Migraine prevention calls for ambush of that enemy.
You are going to use a deliberate ambush, planned in advance.
A deliberate ambush is always set up along a known or suspected route of the enemy. For migraine prevention, you will set up along your migraines’ routes.
Migraine Routes
Most migraine sufferers can identify routes by which migraines usually arrive. The first thing you will want to know is the routes your personal migraines travel. A list of possible routes would keep us here far too long today, but let me give you five examples.
1. MSG or other food additives
2. caffeine
3. red wine
4. cigarettes
5. high humidity
A migraine prevention ambush requires that you identify the routes your migraines travel. Keep a journal. Spy on your migraines. When you sense a migraine arriving, stop, and think what you were doing or eating. Write it down. Look for patterns. Identify the routes.
Set up Your Ambush
Once you have migraine routes established, set up your migraine prevention
ambush along those routes. Camouflage yourself to become less visible to migraines.
1. If MSG is an enemy route, spy on food labels.
2. If migraines arrive via caffeine, use a decaf camouflage.
3. If the enemy travels on red wine, “paint†your wine white.
Use the Artillery
The common ambush method is to set up two artillery arcs that will fire down and up the ambush site. You will want artillery for your migraine prevention ambush.
Prepare a migraine prevention emergency kit, and keep it handy at home, in the car, or at work. Include an OTC (over-the-counter) or prescription medication to shoot down migraines before they arrive in full force. Tuck in bottled water with which to take the medication. Add one or two nutritious food bars to knock out low blood sugar levels.
The strongest artillery you can use is your sense of humor. Man has known for thousands of years that a merry heart does good like a medicine. Migraine prevention should include a merry heart. Even when you see a migraine coming, you can often reduce its impact greatly by maintaining your sense of humor.
Ambush!
One April day in 1943, Youra Livchitz, a young Jewish resistance fighter, learned that the next Auschwitz-bound transport train would leave within the week. He even learned the day and time. Quickly, Youra recruited two school friends. Equipped with a single pistol, a hurricane lamp covered in red paper, and three pairs of pliers, the friends ambushed the train. It was one of the war’s most daring rescues, freeing 1,618 Jews.
Theirs had to be a hasty ambush, but yours can be deliberate. With proper migraine prevention, you can rescue your life.
