How to Cure Migraine Headaches with Aromatherapy
Migraine. You know you aren’t the only sufferer, but that knowledge is of little help when you feel a migraine coming on. Well aware of the throbbing, pounding pain that comes with your migraine, you brace for it, wishing there was a way to cure it - to stop it before it gets a strong hold on you.
Your physician prescribed strong medication. Your family recommended Excedrin Migraine, but nothing gave total Migraine Relief.
1 + 1 = Relief
You may not want to discontinue prescription medication, or Excedrin Migraine, but adding aromatherapy might give the total Migraine Relief you want. As a supplementary treatment, it can extend relief beyond what medication offers.

What Is Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using scented plant oils to facilitate healing. “Aromatherapie” in French, this practice was developed by Henri Maurice Gattefosse in 1928. Such uses of plant perfumes had been part of folk medicine for thousands of years, but because he first scientifically documented the essential oils and their healing abilities, Gattefosse is known as the “father” of modern aromatherapy.
Although many people picture aromatherapy as a lamp wafting fragrance into the room, there are many ways of applying the practice.
What Fragrance Do I Use for Migraine Relief?
Since Lavender is the most highly-recommended fragrance for Migraine Relief, we will focus on that in this article. Lavender is an inexpensive method of dealing with migraine, and can be purchased at health stores.
How to Use Lavender for Migraine Relief
Try these ways to get Migraine Relief with Lavender products.
1. Pillow: Make a Migraine Relief pillow with dried Lavender flowers. A small pillow can be laid on the eyes. A larger pillow can be placed behind the head. Lie in a dark room with your pillow, inhaling the calming, relaxing fragrance with deep breaths.
2. Quick Pouch: Avoid sewing, and make a quick Lavender pouch for Migraine Relief. Lay a bandanna or other square of cloth on a table. Pour a handful of Lavender in the middle of the cloth, roll it, and secure ends with rubber bands. Hold the pouch against your eyes as you lie in a dark room. Breathe the fragrance deep into your sinuses.
3. Bath: Take a Lavender aroma bath for Migraine Relief. Add 5 drops of Lavender essential oil to one half cup of honey or olive oil to make Migraine Relief bath oil. Stir about 1 tablespoon into the bath as you fill it with hot water. The Lavender fragrance will rise in the steam, surrounding you with soothing vapors. Close your eyes and relax. You Migraine Relief bath oil can be stored for many months in a cool, dry, dark place.
4. Skin: Pour a little “carrier” oil on your fingertips. (Ask at your health store for this cold-compressed oil that “carries” the fragrance into your skin.) Add 2-3 drops of pure Lavender essential oil and mix lightly. Massage the mixed oils into your skin at the temple, behind the ears, and on your neck. Lie in a dark room, breathing the fragrance deeply and rhythmically into your body.
5. Handkerchief: Sprinkle a few drops of Lavender essential oil on a handkerchief - or on your pillow. Breathe in the fragrance for Migraine Relief.
6. Lamp: Purchase an aromatherapy lamp. Fill its bowl with water, adding about a dozen drops of Lavender essential oil. Light the small candle beneath the bowl and let the fragrance fill the room as you relax. This can be preventative as well as Migraine Relief.
7. More: Aromatherapy can also be applied with candles, lotions, massage oils, and other products. Ask at your health store.
Contra Indications:
Lavender should not be used at all during the early stages of pregnancy. Use Lavender with caution if you have low blood pressure.
