Migraine Cure - a Better Mouse Trap

Expert AuthorMany millions of people suffer from migraine, some with all 5 stages in every episode, others with only the visual disturbances of the aura. Migraine is a different experience for each individual. What remains constant is the wish for a permanent migraine cure.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door.”

Perhaps the same could be said of a migraine cure. If someone could create a migraine cure, many millions would beat a path to his or her door. The individuality of the complaint means no one migraine cure will suit all, but at present there is not even one cure. There are only ways to treat symptoms.

Since many refer to them as migraine cures, however, we will do so here.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Migraine Cures

Several OTC medications claim to be migraine cures of sorts. Among these are medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and antihistamines. They are not migraine cures, but they can relieve the pain somewhat. If caffeine is added, the body will more readily absorb the painkillers.

A second aspect of migraine cure offered by OTC medications is relief of nausea that may accompany the migraine. Domperidone is available as Motilium tablets. Buccastem M is also available as an OTC medication.

Prescription Migraine Cures

Many who do not get relief from OTC medications ask a physician for prescription medications. Still not a migraine cure, per se, prescription medications will be stronger and, suited to the individual need, may greatly ease the symptoms of migraine. Such medications include prescription medication for nausea, and NSAIDS: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Natural Migraine Cures

Those who practice holistic medicine believe natural treatments, unlike conventional medicine, do qualify as migraine cures. One of these, acupuncture, was the focus of two clinical studies. In both cases, people who received acupuncture experienced Migraine Relief while those who received sham acupuncture did not.

In addition to acupuncture, herbs and nutrients are often considered as migraine cures. One herbal remedy you may want to consider is reviewed on this site.

Whatever “migraine cure” you decide to try, please check with your physician as to whether it is right for you.
