Of Migraine Headaches and Cabbage Leaves
Migraine headaches gather around them, as do many diseases, a variety of home remedies. It may surprise you to learn that among home remedies for migraine headaches is cabbage leaves! There are other interesting ones, too, and we collect a few of them here for you.
Migraine Headaches - Cabbage Leaves
Cabbage leaf compress is one of several ancient folk remedies for relieving migraine headache. To make one:
Crush a few fresh cabbage leaves with your hands to release the juices. Place the crushed leaves in a cloth and fold it carefully or pin it to keep the leaves inside. Lie down in a darkened room and lay the cabbage leaf compress on your forehead. When the leaves dry out, throw them away, and start over for a new, fresh compress.
Just Don’t Make Sauerkraut
Although fresh cabbage leaves in a compress may help, you will want to avoid cabbage in the form of sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is high in thyramine, a cubstance that seems to trigger migraine headaches in some people.
Spinach and Carrot Juices
Some old books of folk lore speak of treating migraine headache with a blend of spinach and carrot juices. Here’s how:
Mix about 0.75 cups of fresh spinach juice with about 1.25 cups of fresh carrot juice. Sip the juice while resting in a darkened room. Your migraine headache should be reduced by the time you have sipped the entire juice “cocktailâ€.
Beet and Cucumber Juices
Along with home remedies for migraine headaches that tout cabbage leaves, spinach, and carrot juices, this one claims migraine Headache Relief from a combination of beet and cucumber juices.
Combine one half cup each of beet juice and cucumber juice. Blend well, and sip while resting in a darkened room.
Lemon Peels
The peels of lemon are said by some to effectively treat migraine headache and give great relief.
Remove the peels from two or three lemons. Chop them and then pound them to a fine paste in a mortar. Apply the paste to the forehead as a plaster and lie in a darkened room.
